On these pages is the most complete single source of walking, hiking trails and information for the Northern Colorado Area. Included are walking trails in Estes Park, Ft Collins, Greeley,  Loveland, Windsor and Northern Colorado. There is also a growing Colorado Trails section. In many instances we have gotten this information by permission from other web sites. We add information and trail locations as we find them or when one of our readers submits websites or trails description.

 Ft. Collins Walking & Hiking Trails

Arapahoe Bend Natural Area Trail head at east end of Horsetooth Rd. Circle trail heads south to Harmony Rd along lakes and the Poudre River about 2 miles round trip. Map

Arthur's Rock Trail From Lory State Park west of Ft Collins in Bellvue 3.4 mile round trip to the top of Arthur's Rock. Spectacular views.

Beaver Creek Trail #942 Fifty miles west up Poudre Canyon to Pingree Park Rd. Follow this rd. 16 miles to Tom Bennett Campground trail head one mile past campground.

Blue Sky Trail One of Larimer Counties newest trails finished in June 2006. It is a  5.5 mile trail connecting trails from Devils backbone trail head north to the Lory State Park Visitors Center for a continuous trail 15.5miles. It also connects with the coyote Ridge Trail system trails.

Bobcat Ridge Natural Area. Opened in fall of 2006 Counties newest trails features approximately a  5.0 mile circle trail which can be used by hikers, horseback riders and bikes. The natural area contains 2600 acres and there are many areas still to be developed.. There will be a 10 mile trail in the hills surrounding the natural area but is not all open as yet.

Cattail Chorus  Open space trails. Trail heads at the Poudre River and Timberline and on east Prospect past the Poudre River bridge on the north side. Trails loop through out the open space approx 2.5 miles of trails all dirt. Good walk. Map

Colorado Visitors Center  Located near I-25 on East Prospect Rd. Trail head at parking lot goes south west and runs into the Environmental Learning Center open space trails.A pleasant walk that has about 3 miles in trails around ponds and near river.t

Coyote Ridge - A pleasant hike that takes your thru the Hogbacks of the Front Range. Trail head off Wilson Ave between Ft Collins and Loveland on west side of road. Connects to the Blue Sky Trail and Devils Backbone Trail.

   
East Valley Trail A four mile same level trail located in Lory State Park west of Ft Collins near Bellvue
Environmental Learning Center North Trail head off Prospect 1/2 mile east of the river bridge. Trail heads south to a major fork under power lines. Righrt fork goes to Colorado Visitors Center and the left fork wanders to the river etc. Trails not marked. About 3 miles.

Foothills Trail is 5.8 miles starting at Pineridge Open Space in Ft Collins and running along the Horsetooth foothills to the Campeau Open Space on the north. Trail is dirt.

Fossil Creek Trail. Ft Collins running from the west side of Fromme Prairie on Overland Tr. east to Shields 2.4 miles paved through the Fromme Natural Area. Trail heads on both Shields and Overland Trail. The trail is planned to connect with the Spring Creek Trail on the west and Fossil Creek Reservoir on the east.

Fossil Creek Park Trail. Ft Collins trail runs in a circle throughout Fossil Creek Park just off S. Lemay Ave across from Southridge Golf Course. About a mile.

Fossil Creek Reservoir. Entrance off Cty Rd 32 (Carpenter Rd) 2 miles east of Timberline. 2 miles of easy trails. Three loop trails all easy. One is handicap accessible 1/2 mile. 2.2 mile loop and a 1 mile loop.

Gateway Mountain Park Fifteen miles from Ft Collins up the Poudre River. Park is located at the old water treatment facility. There are three trails that can be accessed from the park. There is a fee at this park of $4.00 per vehicle.

Grand Ditch Trail - Moderate hike, Great views, trail runs 11.4 miles along the Grand Ditch at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. The entire trail only changes in elevation about two hundred feet. Trail Head in Poudre Canyon at Never Summer Trail head on Long Draw road.

Horsetooth Mountain - Moderate hike, Great views of eastern plains, excellent rock formations

Horsetooth Mountain Park. 29 miles of trails easy to difficult

Horsetooth Reservoir. Inlet bay trail 1.75 mile easy hiking, biking horses

Lookout Mountain - Heavy forested hike with rewarding 360 degree view of Larimer County at finish.

Lower Dadd Gultch Loop - 11.2 mile lariat loop trail. Trailhead in Poudre Canyon below Rustic about 29.5 miles from the highway 287 hwy 14 junction.

McMurry and Sayler Natural Areas  Trail begins at Regency Park which is on north side of Poudre River just west of college. Trail follows Poudre River through the natural areas to Shields St. There are also trails around the ponds and entrances to these open spaces  and trails along Hemlock St.

Pine Ridge Natural Area Trail heads at both Spring Canyon at west end of Horsetooth Rd and at Dixon Reservoir. Trails circle through out natural area. All dirt bikes here too. About three miles

Pingree Park Loop two mile loop starts from the Stormy Peaks Trail head at CSU Pingree Park. West on highway 14 26 miles up the Poudre Canyon go south on the Pingree Park Rd.

Pleasant Valley Trail This trail is the westward extension of the Poudre River Trail. It officially starts at Lions Park at the river and Overland Trail. Continues around Cache La Poudre High and heads west allong the highway to Vern's then left toward Rist Canyon to the Bellview Fish Hatchery Rd. There are two gaps in the trail and users have to use the highway.

Poudre Trail In Ft Collins Along the Poudre River from Laporte on the west at Overland Tr. to the Raptor Center (Environmental Learning Center) at the  East edge of Ft Collins a paved trail of more than 12 miles.

Poudre Trail In Windsor Along the Poudre River startings at Cty Rd 13, west of Windsor. Trail head at the river.  Trail moves east to Eastman Park trail head at Cty Rd 17. Trail continues east skirting north edge of Water Valley to Frank State Wildlife Area on highway 257. Trail head 100 yds south of Kodak Truck Entrance watch for brown signs. Trail then moves east to Greeley dead ending at 59th Ave. Trail approx 14 miles total. See Greeley Trails.

Power Trail. Ft Collins runs north-south along the railroad tracks following the power lines between Edora Park  south to Harmony Rd. It is 1.75 miles of paved trail. Between Horsetooth Rd and Harmony all dirt. Plans are to connect to Loveland on the south someday.

Roaring Fork Trail  40 miles west on Colorado 14 from the US 287 junction up Poudre Canyon. Trail Head on North Side in Kinikinik. Trail is 5 miles one way elevation range is 2,000 feet. up to 9,875. Winter grounds for Big Horn Sheep down to highway level.

Soderburg Trailhead   This trailhead is west of horsetooth reservoir on 34E and connects to Lory State Park trails on the north and the Blue Sky Trail on the south all the way to Loveland's Devils Backbone trail system and highway 34.

Spring Canyon Trails  Trail head at west end of Horsetooth Rd. Trail starts at the dog park and moves south then west throughout the Pineridge natural area. There is also a trail from here north to the Spring Creek Trail head.

Spring Creek Trail. Runs from the west starting at Southwest Community Park on Overland Tr. Runs along Spring Creek about 9 miles connecting to the Poudre Trail 1 mile north of Prospect Rd. Trail is paved.
