Johnstown has thrown it's hat into the development
and growth game as well. On Johnstown's Centennial just a few years ago this small country town
was not more than a few blocks square at the junction of two main county
roads. It has recently annexed land from it's town center 6 miles north
to state highway 34. and four miles east to reach I-25. These
annexations have more than increased it's area by 5 times. Johnstown now
encompasses 8.5 square miles.
The land along highway 34 is just south of the new Centerra
development and The equally new Promenade Shops. This makes Johnstown
right in the middle of the I-25/ H34 growth area. Now developing major
areas called Centerra, which is in Loveland and 2534 and Iron Horse are both
in Johnstown. All of this is at the corner of I-25 and Highway 34
probably the fastest growing commercial and residential area in
Colorado.
Many people see it as a small town with good highway
access to jobs as far as Denver. The town itself and it's residential
communities are still considered "out in the country" as they are
surrounded by corn fields, dairy farms and ranches.
The population in 2000 census was 3,827 it was
estimated at about 5,000 in 2004 and is now about 8000 in late 2006 and
still growing fast. Johnstown is located in Weld County which had
a population of over 180,000 in 2000. It is now estimated that there are
nearer 220,000. Johnstown like most of it's neighbors in the
northern Colorado area are
fast growing and dynamic. |
